Kinda Cool

I know two sisters. I've known them for many many years. I'm struck by how different they are, and how differently their lives turned out from what they thought they wanted.

The older sister is the one who couldn't wait to get out of her small town. She had her sights set on seeing the world, and never settling for small town anything. The younger one was the homebody. She was the one who had to be pushed to leave home. She envisioned herself living next door to her parents, marrying a local boy, and driving a station wagon full of kids to soccer practice.

In reality, the older one lives next door to her parents, married a local boy, and carts kids all over the community. She is active in her home church and community. She takes vacations, but never really too far from home.

The younger one? She tried to go home, but had a hard time finding a life that suited her. She ended up taking a job far from home. When marriage didn't come young, she bought her own house. Now that she's married, she's probably going to remain childless. And, she just posted pictures of her latest business trip to an eastern European country on facebook.

They couldn't have turned out more different . . . but, it's kinda cool the way it has worked out for both of them. They have happy, fulfilled, successful lives even if it is the opposite of what they thought they were working towards.
