We have a parking lot farmers' market that operates on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. I rarely can drag myself out of bed early enough on Saturday mornings to avoid picking through the left overs. But, Wednesdays, I pass it on the way to the office and can pick up an obscene amount of food.
Today's haul (for just under $25)
Large watermelon
Cantaloupe
bag of banana peppers
3 lbs new redskin potatoes
bag of small yellow squash
bag of fresh onions
bag of ripe tomatoes
6 large ears of corn
several large cukes
All this food was locally grown, was still growing 48 hours ago, and tastes better than anything I can get in the supermarket.
Tonight, I made a simple veggie saute' and boiled potatoes and corn. Phenom ate the ratatouille and I am almost embarrassed to admit I ate every single ear of corn . . . with lots of butter and Cajun seasoning. I will probably regret it later, but that was one fine plate of corn.
Phenom claims I could make the saute' every night and there would be no complaints.
