Bereavement Butt

Recently, a good friend's grandfather passed away. In keeping with southern tradition, I felt the need to bring the bereaved some food. The problem is that my friend is one of the pickiest eaters I know. And, then I remembered . . . she likes my "Butt Chex."

I season the chex mix with the dry rub I normally use in BBQ, or on butts.

You too can make butt chex.

In a sauce pan, melt 1 stick of butter, 1 - 2 tablespoons bbq dry rub, and 2-4 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce. Stir.

Take a large turkey roasting aluminum pan, line with tin foil, and mix in any of the following:

Bugles
goldfish crackers
Cheddar Bunnies
rice chex
wheat chex
fritos corn chips
cherrios
pretzels
cashews
almonds
macadamia nuts

I don't measure, which means I often get quite a lot going. But for you measuring types out there . . . a couple cups of 5-6 items should be enough.

Pour the seasoned butter mix over and toss. Bake in a 300 degree oven . . . stirring every 15 minutes until you've baked it 45 minutes total. Pour out on lined cookie sheets to cool.
