Got VD?

Valentine's Day, that is. Perverts.

I think the only other day more loaded with positive and negative emotions has to be Mother's Day.

On these two holidays, you are pressured to come up with some token of your deep love and affection for a significant person --- that is if you have that significant person in your life. If you don't, then these holidays are nothing short of a terror.

On one hand, I adore Valentine's Day. Pretty much because it's an excuse to eat chocolate. And, it follows my birthday, so it's always kinda been like an extension of my birthday. And, I've had a date for Valentines Day for many many years now. I feel bad for those perfectly lovely people who are left feeling lonely and worthless because they don't have a date on one random day of the year. That's pretty harsh.

I like the Chick's approach -- make the holiday about the people you love - romantically and otherwise. She sends out cards to many friends. Her fondest memories have to do with family and milestones in her life. She doesn't try to wrap up her entire relationship with her main squeeze into one gift or one card or one day. That's probably the only sane way to do it.

So, even if you don't have someone to squeeze on the 14th -- eat lots of chocolate, tell the people you love how you feel, and send someone a card who doesn't expect it. Maybe, someday, Valentines Day will be about more than JUST romantic love.

On the flip side, VD would be a pretty awful Valentine's gift. I'm just sayin'....
