When the old folks were trying to teach me human ways, one of the frustrations I had was with humans who wasted my time. I remember a math teacher who assigned a series of doodles to be made with protractors and compasses and then brightly colored in random hues just so she could prepare her child for beauty pageants. I was surly and uncooperative when I thought my time was being wasted.
Apparently, nothing has changed. Tonight I had to attend some dumb meeting. I came home utterly pissed off.
First, they summoned me to this meeting just two days ago. I personally think that any meeting that will require people to work over time should be announced at least a week ahead of time.
Second, they had a long ass agenda. I thought it was a rather casual gathering of people in related work but slightly different products. Someone hired an outsider to "facilitate" the meeting. The agenda was that which you would put together if you were creating a whole new business - not a casual sharing of trade practices.
Third, the organizers showed up 5 minutes after the announced start time. The facilitator showed up an hour late, which required attendees to make chit-chat while waiting. I didn't agree to be away from my life to make chit-chat with people I see routinely and don't really like.
Fourth, when someone who claimed to be "in charge" showed up 1/2 an hour late and then started taking over -- I pointed out that I thought that the agenda was too ambitious for the cause - and she shut me down!!
Fortunately, about an hour in to this mess, my cell rang and I pretended it was important and left the meeting.
When humans waste my time, I feel that they are disrespecting me. I'm a tad touchy about being disrespected - given my obvious differences.
