An article in the New Yorker Mag. online points out that our commander in chief has a habit of referring to his political party's opposition party as the "Democrat Party" rather than the appropriate or proper "Democratic Party."
This seems to be a fairly minor thing - except that the name has been used for several decades as a slur and "not a compliment." And, it seems that he doesn't reserve the slur for private chats with cronies - but rather uses it constantly, even when making public speeches. There are those who tut-tut and see this as an example of how crude the man can be (especially on the heels of using a "bad word" publicly). There are others who say this is evidence of how all talk of bi-partisan cooperation is bunk and this is better evidence of the animosity the current administration feels towards anyone who might not agree whole heartedly with the president and his party.
I have to wonder if the real question no one is asking is: Does the prez really know better? Has he heard this slur so often that he actually believes this is the proper name for the party? He has never claimed to be an intellectual giant. His misspeaks are the stuff of legend. Perhaps he doesn't even know and no one is willing to clue him in. Or, may someone has clued him in, several times, and he just can't seem to remember this one - and they've given up?
