I don't know how it happened, I took a trip to a fun, new place, and totally forgot to get any pictures. Well, I got one, of a statue of a man who has a name very much like that of a friend's cat . . . but that doesn't really qualify as a vacay picture. Oh well, I guess I'll have to go back sometime.
Over the weekend, a girlfriend and I visited Savannah, GA. She'd been there, briefly, once and I have never. Although, I typically prefer southern towns for getaway experiences.
The town is laid out in an easy to figure out grid. There is a large tourist district with lots of pubs, restaurants, and shops. There is also a HUGE art school that is slowly restoring all the old, unloved buildings that have been abandoned in the older section of town. Art school means lively art scene.
Oh, and they wholly approve of getting your drink on. Open containers are permitted on the street, so long as the are in a go-cup.
We stayed in a very swank, historic hotel. Lots of comforts. We attended a wedding in a park. We had a terrific time at the after party. Our server was named Happy, and he was most appropriately named. I had the she-crab soup with golden sherry and the tenderloin steak with grilled asparagus. It was absolutely perfect. But, better than the food was the chance to catch up with some folks I've not seen in many a year. Catching up stories are always fun. It was a good group of folks. I don't think I got to meet the bride's parents, but catching up with the groom's parents was lovely. It is always nice to attend a wedding when you know more than just one member of the couple.
We spent a day site-seeing and wandering around. We had a great meal of fried green tomatoes and fried grouper. And, there were many drinks. Oh! We had a lovely dessert of tiramisu at lunch one day, and then with our night-cap, an amazing creme brulee. I think I've talked my friend into getting her own kitchen torch.
In all, I feel rejuvenated and relaxed. I have great little treats for my monkey friends and The Phenom. And, now I feel I should write a thank you note to the bride and groom for hosting such a fun event.
