The Collection

It started when I was a young monkey. The first item was a finger painting by one of the grandchildren of the Old Woman. The child was about a year old, and the first time we'd played together, we finger painted. A few months later, at Christmas, I received a finger painting by the child as a gift. I still have it tucked away.

Over the years, it grew to include letters and cards from other children I've known. Some, even, have been framed and are on display in my home. Like the first birthday card I received from my favorite Chipmunk.

This week, I added to the collection. A thank you note from a little boy I just adore. I don't always understand what he says to me on the phone, and he is just learning to write. I was warned that the note might remind me of a ransom note with it's block letters and lack of spacing. But, I just love it. It is currently on my refrigerator, but soon it will be added to the collection of childhood memories of my friends' children.
