'Tis the season

I'm making my list . . . the liquor loaf list.

This has been an evolution. I have a "relation" who loves fruit cake. And, you know me, I do love to indulge people's food passions. For the past several years, I've been seeking out, purchasing, and mailing off a fruitcake at the holiday time to this person. Despite being the object of ridicule, it was much appreciated. Over the years, I've gone through several groups of monks and other religious organizations' cakes as well as a few "grandma's best" sorts.

Last year, after coming to the end of the availability of good fruitcakes for purchase, I decided to make my own. I'd been gifted, earlier in the year, with a cookbook from a Berkeley, CA bakery. Their cake had a wide variety of fruits and nuts, nothing day-glo, and lots and lots and lots of booze.

People seemed to like them. A Lot. Really a lot.

Yesterday, the box of dried fruits and nuts that will be this year's loaves arrived. The next day off from work will be the day of liquor loaves . . . and then there will be a prolonged "aging" process.

I sure hope the postal service doesn't decide some year that the alcohol content makes them unsuitable for shipping.
