You know I'm a snarky, bitter, somewhat sarcastic monkey, right? You know I hold onto grudges well past their "use by" date? And, these things are the road to very bad karma, right?
Hopefully, I'm doing just a little bit of repair to my karma this week. Several weeks ago, a friend had surgery to correct an issue with her jaw. Hooray! No more difficult jaw. But, this means for several weeks, she cannot chew. Friends organized and have come up with a soup/chewing optional foods delivery system. Tomorrow is my day.
I have three offerings. Butternut squash soup. Creamless broccoli soup. Gingered carrot soup. The first recipe is a staple of the holiday tables we share with friends. The soup is thick, creamy, and just enough spicy to keep it interesting. It comes from Bill Neal's Southern Cooking. The next two are new ones for me and come from the Moosewood Daily Special cookbook.
The creamless broccoli is made creamy/thick with the addition of a bit of oatmeal. It essentially is onion/celery/broccoli/broth/seasoning. I was skeptical when I blended it . . . but amazingly, a convincing creamy mouth feel. And, tastes like broccoli.
The next one is carrots/onion/ginger/water and I'll finish it with orange juice. It smells wonderful and the book says it can be served warm or cold. I'm thinking gingered carrot Popsicles.
I also made her cat a new catnip toy.
Hopefully, this time tomorrow, I'll have bought myself a couple karma cool points.
