Unremarkable in a past life

How come people who insist they are reincarnations from the past were always someone of power or notoriety?

Some may remember we had a cat once named Toad. He was without a doubt the most loving creature ever. He was at total peace with the world and loved everyone. We use to say that he was either reincarnated from the Dali Lama or would someday come back as a Lama. Toad had a very humble birth . . . in the bed of a philosopher. The philosopher was often drunk, and one night in a stupor rolled over on the kittens and Toad was the only survivor.

We had Toad in our family for nearly 19 years. We were sad when he reached the point where his life had withdrawn into pain.

A few weeks ago, a small kitten showed up in our yard. He was loud (so was the Toad) and cheeky. The other freeloaders wouldn't let him play or share a plate. So, Phenom, being a sucker for the abandoned and unloved, brought the little thing into our home. He was renamed Louie and has quickly become a favorite, with all of us. All of the cats, even the one who barely tolerates me, likes him. They all take turns grooming him. They tolerate his bouncing them. We are starting to wonder if perhaps he is the reincarnation of Toad, and it just took him a few weeks to find us.
