Planning

We are having a house guest this weekend. Few things make me happier than planning a menu for a cherished friend/relation. Since we rarely get to see this person, we have decided to theme their visit "Happy Birthday 2010." Their birthday won't roll around for quite some time, but chances are they will be out of the country or we will be grinding down our noses when it does roll around.

This is my tentative menu.

Prosciutto and melon
Blueberry and lemoncello coolers
mixed nuts

Fancy cobb salad . . .
with avocado, chilled asparagus, blue cheese, bacon, eggs, homemade croutons, homemade vinaigrette

But, I'm stuck on a dessert that says "birthday" but isn't too fussy. I was thinking about making a quickie batch of chocolate cupcakes and a caramel cream cheese frosting. Or I could make hot fudge sundaes . . .

I'll have to make up my mind before Thursday when I'll need to lay in supplies. The anticipation just makes me tingly.
