Off the Grid

From time to time, the Phenom becomes fascinated, and by fascinated I mean obsessed, with a notion. Several years ago, it was climbing Mt. Everest. There was much researching and discussions. The reasoning was that it was something to achieve that few humans would in their lives. And all this from a human who doesn't like cold, is tremendously picky about sleeping surfaces, and I'm pretty sure can't take a dump while squatting over the side of a frozen ravine. Actually, I think it was the story of the climber who actually fell backwards during the squat and dump maneuver that cured the Phenom of the Everest obsession.

So, the Phenom has a new obsession . . . going "off the grid." I think this simply is an excuse to never check email again. Because shopping and reading of favorite web sites is still happening. Only, it's on my grid.

I keep telling the Phenom that to really go off the grid, we should start refusing mail delivery. Apparently catalogs are still permitted while off the grid.
