So, on the flight down to NOLA (first class!!!) there was a man with one of the most meticulously arranged comb overs I've ever seen. Whereas I can be a very good monkey, I am frequently a very bad human. I couldn't help but study the coif.
His "deep part" started just over his left ear and circumvented his head to just shy of his right ear. His blond hair was combed over from left to right as well as back to front. It didn't move a bit, despite the rather pronounced turbulence. It was pretty obvious that he had a ring around 2/3 of his head that was at least a foot long, and then below it no hair was longer than an inch.
But, odd hairstyle aside, I'm left with all sorts of questions. At what point does a "deep part" move into comb over territory? Is this something the wearer must bring up with their hairdresser? Or does barber gently suggest that perhaps we try something a little "different" this time? And, how do men with comb overs handle trips to the beach or particularly windy days? At what point does the combee just give up and embrace the truth of the matter? Or, does the barber say "well, we can try this for a year or so . . . but you might want to take this brochure for 'Hair Club for Men' with you." Is there a particular personality sort that would go for the comb over as oppose to the shave?
Good thing we monkeys can hide our advancing years with dye and antics.
