I think I had, today, what is typical for humans to experience on Mondays.
First, I could not haul my monkey butt out of bed this morning. Rationalizing all the way, I slept an extra hour. Rather, tried to sleep an extra hour but Fleur had other ideas . . . some nonsense about tossing her mouse to chase down and repeated rubbing of her head and belly.
Then, the moment I got to work, a massive thunderstorm blew through and there were rolls of thunder and scary lightening followed with fire trucks rushing about.
I had two rather specific tasks and a lunch meeting to host today. The first task should have been done before the lunch meeting and the second after lunch. But, then the regional manager popped in and needed attention. It was a good sort of meeting with the regional manager, so totally worth while. Then we discovered that a distributor sent out totally the wrong product and my totally perfect work plan was derailed to make rather lengthy phone calls trying to track down the problem and get it corrected.
By then, it was lunch time and I'd only spent a few short minutes not getting the first task done. The lunch meeting was lauded a success. Only to be a brief respite from an afternoon that got derailed because my plans for my business trip next week needed tweaking. I tried to make changes to my hotel reservations only to find the phone number is now an advert for a "chat line" and the web site has been taken down and the parent company says they no longer operate that hotel and please call the new owners only to have the new owners tell me that they both do not have a record of my reservation and the hotel is not even operational. (insert pulling of own hair here)
A phone call that should have taken 5 minutes tops ended up causing multiple calls and online searches and running around before finally figuring out that the hotel is indeed still in operation, does have my reservation, and hopefully all is arranged for next week's travels.
And, that morning task was finally completed just in time for another vendor to call and say there was an error on an invoice and could I please prepare a new one and get it in the mail today. Then, I had to head off to the distributor and never even came close to starting task number two. Oh, and I'm pretty sure my growing stress level was annoying the evil side kick.
But, it still wasn't as bad as the day I headed straight for the tequila the moment I walked in the door. . . so, there's that. Still, it would have been nice to have a good girlfriend whose long friendship would have obligated her to listening to me whine a bit.
