Blog for Change

I'm going to get a bit personal here. But, since I have the least popular blog in the universe, I feel kinda safe doing so.

Those of you who either know me actually, or have read me or the Chick for any length of time, know that I'm a "she" type of monkey. And, a she type of monkey who was raised by old people. Some of you know that I don't actually work for the "man" . . . rather, a more subversive type of work -- just call it "community organizing."

This weekend, the Old Woman told me that she didn't know who she was going to vote for. BLOW MY MIND, OLD WOMAN!

The Old Woman is one of the more progressive, liberal, open-minded people I know. But, she was a supporter of Hilary, and still is disappointed that she isn't likely to see a woman president in her life time. (She also reminded me that she is sneaking up on 90 more rapidly than she is comfortable with these days.)

She seemed rather surprised that I was such a vocal supporter of Obama . . . having serious feminist leanings and all. But, really, she should not be at all surprised.

After all, I too have done my share of community organizing. I'm a functioning member of society with a less than everyday, nuclear family type back ground who was raised by old people too. Of course, I would feel that Obama and I are on the same page. To say nothing of the fact that he seems to genuinely want to take his community organizing skills to the next level . . . and not just amass huge wealth or power for himself. I don't think one could say that about Mr. I-Was-Pro-Choice-Until-I-Changed-Just-To-Court-Support-From-The-Party-Faithful-Because-I-Want-To-Be-President-So-Bad-I-Could-Pee-My-Pants.

I don't trust polls. After all, no one ever said they actually voted for Helms, but yet he kept getting re-elected. I have this giddiness that is starting to build in hopes that we might actually be able to move this country forward rather than desperately grasp onto an imaginary past.

You know what they say . . . vote early, and vote often, folks!

Hear, hear! Well, except for the "often" part.

I'll be casting my vote early because I'll be in a different state on election day.

Here's hoping that the majority of my state votes with me this time...

Thanks for joining in! I agree with you about polls. They make me very nervous! I refuse to get cocky! Yes I hope we can!
