Sibling Jealousy

I guess I shouldn't be surprised. The Old People did lure me into their home. They promised food, and treats, and a soft bed on which I could sleep. They did right by me . . . making sure I had the education and training that I needed to slip mostly unnoticed into human society.

But, I can't help feeling a tad replaced.

I spoke to the Old Woman this weekend . . . and she reported that she and the Old Man had been spending their days feeding a new critter . . . luring it into their lives. I know I've not lived in their home for many years now. . . but I'd like to think that after me all other critters would pale in comparison.

But, apparently, the memories of raising a monkey are all too easily forgotten when there is a bear in the back yard. Yeah, sure . . . every child on the planet is given a toy bear for comfort. But, in reality, bears aren't nearly as cute and talented as monkeys. They just lumber around, eating and rubbing up against trees. Even the "trained" ones aren't so impressive.

Fortunately for me (and quite possibly the Old People too) bears sleep all winter . . . so maybe come spring the Old People will have forgotten all about that stinky ol' bear and want me back as their number one critter.
