The Bad Vibe

So, the Chickie and I went to an Indigo Girls concert this weekend. I think this makes our 5th such concert together. So, we know something about the vibe. We've been to the high ticket price, swank venue. We've been to the average concert venue. And, we've done the hippie hang out venue.

This was a small venue that specializes in concerts in a largish town. The venue should have afforded a good show. There was promise that we would actually end up closer to the stage than the time we had seats in the second row.

The warm up was great. We totally acknowledged that we'd be iTuning later. The Girls were in fine voice and did probably the best set list yet. They did a couple of songs they don't usually do in concert . . . and their political stuff.

But, the crowd ruined it for us. There were way too many men who were throwing off an aggressively male vibe. I couldn't decide if these were guys who had been dragged to the show against their will and were determined to be miserable and foist their misery off on others . . . or if these were young, immature twits who thought they were going to see some hot "girl on girl" action. I suspect the latter.

I also really was surprised by the territoriality of the crowd. And the fact they were way more invested in making sure their camping spots remained their "property" than enjoying the show. No one was dancing. People always dance.

We had people rudely whine at us because they wanted us to move over so their friends who hadn't gotten there yet could stand exactly where we were standing. There were people who tried to passively but physically shove us over. And, there were even a few twits who decided the best way to make space for themselves in a standing room only area was to throw their elbows out.

And, there was the asshat who thought that the crowd was an invite to press obscenely up against women . . . and grasp them inappropriately. I only wish I'd picked up on what Chickie was saying before he skulked off into the crowd . . . I've put asshats in crowds in full nelsons before, I can do it again. And, despite the vibe, I'm pretty sure one or two sisters would have helped.

I think Chickie and I will have to be more selective of the venue in the future. This must be a sign we've gotten old . . . because the crowd ruined a great show for us.

The Chick said...

Even Earache, a long-time veteran of general admission, said the 'you move you lose' rule applied.

And as for the groping and territoriality...I'm still trying to put it outta my mind.

I'm glad we met Felicity-Melissa and Juan-Fellipe though. That was entertaining!
