Apparently, I'm to honest for my own good . . . honest enough that the human types are suspicious of me. I am gonna have to take two free cookies in the grocery to throw them off the trail.
Let me explain. . . The Old Woman taught me to be law abiding and rigidly honest. Which apparently I take too seriously and most human types play rather fast and loose with. sigh.
Last week, the cute Fed Ex boy brought into my office two rather large boxes which were obviously a new computer. The problem was that I didn't order a new computer, and although they were addressed to my business, they were addressed to "office manager" and there is no human or critter in my office with that title. So, being cheap and not wanting to pony up for the postage to send them back, I simply refused delivery. That was the honest thing, no?
This week I get an email from the assistant to the regional manager telling me that as a bonus for performance, they were sending me a new computer for free . . . and in fact it should have arrived already.
I kinda wish I hadn't called Dell's fraud department now.
I don't know where my shiney new computer is today. I don't know if I'll ever get it back. And, I'm still not sure if this should motivate me to perform even better next year for the cool bonus . . . or just hold the status quo and hope by next year I'll have received last year's bonus. And who sends people new computers with out giving them a heads up?
Apparently, company wide, all managers with performance numbers above a certain level got the bonus computers. I was the only one who refused delivery on it.
Like I said . . . I blame the Old Woman for teaching the difference between right and wrong . . . and for installing that micro-chip in my brain that has recordings of her voice reminding me of the "right thing to do" over and over again.

I'm with you. Who'd order a new computer for you without giving you a heads-up?
I assume you're not working with a significant amount of excess cash for postage, etc., and it's rather unnerving to receive a package like that when you're not expecting it. At least, it is for me.
This is what I am saying!!!!
