Last night, as I'm reading my regular blog faves, an old friend of mine popped up on IM. Naturally, the long distance and time meant I had to hit her up with a "que pasa?" To which, she answered that she was "sad in her heart." One of the delightful things about this friend is that she frequently describes herself as being either sad or happy "in my heart."
The story of last night's sadness leaves me wanting to get your take on her situation. She had recently entered and competed in a cooking contest. No real money was at stake . . . just pride. But, she didn't win. But that's not what was making her sad. The person who did win used store bought mix. The rules didn't specifically say that you COULDN'T use pre-mix . . . but the fact it is a contest lead all the other contestants to develop their own recipe.
So, is it cheating to use store bought mix in a cooking contest?

Yes! If that counted as cooking, then I'm a cook! That's the silliest thing I ever heard of! Boooo...
Not knowing the specifics of the situation, I'd say it probably breaks the spirit of the competition.
Total, total cheater-cheater-pumpkin-eater!
