what I did over thanksgiving break

We spent thanksgiving with friends. They have a little girl who calls me "unca mawg" and who loves me and the Phenom. We brought the game "operation" with us - and we spent many hours leading up to the feast performing unnecessary surgeries. This child has only rare encounters with commercial television, has been in school just a few months . . . . . so it's a puzzle as to where she came up with the notion she should save some of her operation earnings "for the judge."

We had a most spectacular meal. As the Phenom was drifting off to sleep I heard "those were great potatoes" -- I asked "mashed or sweet" and the phenom just said "potatoes."

And today? What did this Monkey who can't stomach a trip to walmart without copping a serious attitude with those vicious old women who demand to see your receipt before you're allowed to leave the store? (which, by the way is stupid -- there is no way they could scan my cart, packages bagged, and scan the receipt and have any clue if everything was properly paid for. I hate "feel good" security and never play along or nice.) But, I digress. I went shopping. But not the hyper commercial wal-mart or mall type. We went to three shops -- all three featured handcrafted by the owners of the shop goods. And, we went to lunch at a local diner - where the owners will serve up and clear up your food.

Ya'll might consider throwing your business this holiday season to the people who make and sell their goods. It will stimulate YOUR local economy and encourage the craftsmen around us to keep on going.

And, now, I'm going to open a fresh bottle of wine - because my buzz is starting to wear off.
