I have this interaction with a human today that left me somewhat mystified and miffed. I related the interaction to Evil Side Kick - and she immediately got why it was so bizarro. But, sadly, every other human I've related the story to effed it up too. sigh.
So, knowing I have a long ass day and probably won't have a chance to have lunch - I decide to indulge in a rare breakfast - from a magic window. (Magic window is the name we gave drive throughs for our pooch). My order totals $4.23. I hand the magic window girl a fiver and three pennies -- thinking that I'm making life easier for her in that she can give me a nice rounded off 80 cents change.
I hear her ask two people "how much change do I give ?" Then she hands me three quarters and a penny. I hand the penny back and tell her it should be a nickel. She says no -- she asked her manager and the manager says that I get 68 cents back. I hold up the receipt - point to the numbers - reassure her that I'm owed 80 cents and I need a nickel more change.
As she hands me the nickel I hear her mutter "great, another 4 cents outta my paycheck."
First - um, in what universe is the change from that interaction 68 cents? and since when has three quarters and a penny equal 68 cents?
And, given her serious lack of change making skill - undoubtedly her drawer won't total at the end of her shift -- and she totally is gonna make assumptions about the character of all monkeys based on this interaction. damn.
