Santa, mystery no more

I seemed to have worried myself into a tizzy for nothing. Santa was more than generous - actually bringing me everything on my list, items not on my list but secretly hoped for, and several complete surprises too. I thought perhaps it was because he's old and confused. Perhaps monkeys don't have the same behavioral standards as humans.

But, today, the lovely phone lady explained it all to me. The Lovely Phone Lady answers the phones at a business I call on frequently. I have tried numerous times to entice her with tales of the romance of the traveling showman's life. But, she has always politely refused to allow me to whisk her off to exotic lands to earn her way through life by her wits and talents.

Any way, she suggested that perhaps Santa doesn't have a standard of "good" versus "bad." But rather, he judges each by their own abilities. Perhaps he realized that although by SOME HUMAN standards I was "bad" or "naughty" or "evil" -- Santa is able to see that I was as good as I could possibly be given my personal circumstances.

Frankly, this knowledge touches my little monkey heart. I have to say, if this is true - then there will be real home made cookies on the hearth next year and not the broken, left over oreos of years past.
