Nightmares, all natural

A stomach flu is making the rounds. So are colds. I was starting to feel a bit of a twinge in my throat a few nights ago. I made the colossal mistake of mentioning it to a member of the Phenom's cast.

This particular cast member is a lot like many folks who make their livings by their voices and bodies. He likes to see what various substances will do to enhance or deteriorate his physical being, his performances. Most performers cycle through destructive and constructive "miracles." (You try hosting a party for performers . . . some don't eat meat, some don't eat dairy, some only eat organic barley cooked with wine . . . the list goes on.) At the present, this cast member is on a kick of everything being all natural, organic, and preferably Asian in origin.

I was given a baggie with three little brown pills in it. I was told that they are for purchase on the internet, perfectly legal, and contains a special mixture of Asian herbs and mushrooms.

Out of fear of being sick and having terribly important work delayed, I took one of the pills at bed time. That night, I had an experience I've only had once before - and that too came with a cold remedy. I had vivid, scary, bizarro dreams. And, I was aware of the fact I wanted to but could not wake up. In the recent bout of dreams, I was fleeing an alien toxin and was headed to Mexico with four dogs. I had to convince the border guard the dogs were my children.

However, the difference with this pill was that a day and a half later, I'm still having bizarro dreams. I took a nap this afternoon and dreamed that the local government had decided to build a highway through my back yard - and the earth movers had run over and crushed my dog -- and when I stood on my steps to complain, they dumped a load of dirt on me and took out part of my roof.

At this point, I think I'd rather have the cold.
