Yesterday, I had this little chat with my friend Bohemian. Bohemian knows food. Bohemian was in the middle of making some soup she received as a Hanukkah gift. We decided that food gifts are pretty much the best sort of gift from people you aren't expecting jewelry or a bike from.
So, tonight, I cooked up one of the food gifts I received: Cincinnati Chili.
This thoughtful gift came with a can of tomato paste, pasta, oyster crackers, and a seasoning baggie the gifter made up. I was instructed to mix ground beef with the tomato paste, water, the seasoning, and cook for a long time. I've never NOT browned the meat, so this was totally new.
For those of you unaware: Cincinnati style chili requires a unique blend of spices including cinnamon and cocoa. It makes your house smell amazing. Seriously. Then, you serve the beanless chili over pasta. You can top your chili with chopped onion, cheese, kidney beans, and/or oyster crackers. It's pretty much a heart attack in a bowl - but oh is that pain worth it.
Now, I have to hunt down a recipe for the seasoning.
