The Vice President's daughter, Mary Cheney has announced that she and her same-sex partner of 15 years are expecting a child. Mary is the member of the couple who is carrying the pregnancy.
It's always happy news when a loving couple choose to bring a child into their family. I wish nothing but the best for them.
However, studies show that children benefit greatly when they are reared in stable, two parent households. Granted, Monkeys don't really go in for marriage - but, then again, we live in family groups, and a parent disappearing by choice isn't really an issue for us. However, it is with humans. To hear the current powers who-be-tell it, the phenomena of single parent households, un-wed parenthood, and family instability are the greatest crises facing the fabric of society.
So, wouldn't it be nice if, as a welcome baby gift, the current powers who-be-make it so that Mary's baby can be born into a stable, loving, and MARRIED two parent home?
