I have been decidedly restrained in my response to the "victory" of the democrats in the recent elections. I am hoping that the jumping up and down and declarations of big changes aren't just bravado that will be forgotten before January rolls around.
I admit, I have felt as if my "freedom of speech" has been compromised in the last several years. I can't say it's all been because I feel I've finally learned to "pick my battles" - but rather, there really has been an undercurrent of oppression for opinions contrary to the party line. I hope that this recent election cycle will mean that I'm less paranoid about the fall out from exercising my constitutional freedoms. Frankly, the past few years, I've been surprised I was still permitted to travel due to my regular exercising of my democratic freedoms.
The fact of the matter is, I'm still worried that we've charted for ourselves a course which will not easily be reversed. I also believe that if wholesale and radical changes are made, the folks who put us in our current state will have even more support than ever -- because humans fear change - even good changes.
So, perhaps less jumping up and down, and more real action, eh?
