I've been following the story of the disgraced minister in Colorado with some interest. Not so much in the details of the alleged sex and drug use, but rather the thickening plot as reported by the media.
First, the guy said that he had never met the accuser (who claimed a multi-year affair, gay prostitution, and heavy drug use). Then, he said "oh yeah, I bought drugs from him in a hotel room, but we never had sex and I threw the drugs away." Now, he's admitting that he bought drugs and got "massages" from the accuser.
First, as a confirmed cynic, I have to wonder if the story is really changing daily, or has the media spun it out to keep us coming back?
But, dude, the secret to not looking like an utter fool, is to either pick a story and stick with it - or refuse comment.
As an editorial aside, if years of reading the internet and being tuned into media outlets has taught me anything, it is that people dabbling in drug use don't start with meth. They start with pot, maybe a bit of coke. White collar folks who are terrified of getting caught tend to mis-use prescription drugs - maybe score the odd tab of X. Then hit the hard stuff. Meth was created to give a fast cheap high to the folks who are truly addicted and hard up.
