In the state of Colorado, a woman is displaying this wreath on her home. Her home owner's association is imposing a fine of $25 dollars a day because they think it is either a protest of the war in Iraq or a symbol of satan. You should know, my very cold house is starting to warm up just on the steam shooting from my ears.
First, a history lesson. This symbol was created in 1958 to be a logo for the British Nuclear Disarmament Society. They intentionally did not copyright the logo so that other non-profits and peaceful ventures could use the symbol freely. Last I checked, you Americans loved the Brits because they followed ya'll into Iraq. And, who amongst you can say that you really are FOR countries loading up on nuclear weapons all willy-nilly?
Second, um, but don't ya'll go around claiming that world peace is the highest aspiration of beauty queens? Isn't the christmas season also referred to as a season of peace? Isn't the concluding line of the christmas story in the christian bible "peace on earth, and good will towards man"?
and Third - um, doesn't the constitution give the freedom of speech and expression so long as it is not inciting riots or violence? A peace symbol is hardly displayed to incite violence.
Frankly, I'm surprised that peace symbols haven't been incorporated into the holidays earlier.
