First, this morning, the pants had made more progress northwards. There was also an empty bottle of a carbonated beverage near by. I am assuming the caffeine and sugar explains the increase in movement observed in the last two days.
Second, this evening, they appeared to be suffering. They seemed "squashed" and listless. They had not made any northerly progress during the day - but were closer to the neighbors across the street than before.
Third, The Chick has stepped forward to claim the underpants. I'm not quite sure if she means that they are hers literally or figuratively. In reality, the Chick lives several hours to the west of me and I am not aware of any recent travels east that she has made. Also, her claim to the underpants requires us to ask how she came to lose her underpants? What would she do to this innocent creature that would cause such a desperate run for freedom?
There is, of course, the possibility that she was claiming a relationship with this particular pair of underpants the way people will claim mother responsibilities for other children. That's noble, isn't it?
I still want to know what she did to make her underpants run away.

I think the underpants may have run away due to lack of activity. I really don't know what they expect to find in your neck of the woods though.....
