A crusader for the truth is leaving her post. It is quite sad. I'm not sure if there is anyone who can step up and replace the dedication and passion that she had for the disenfranchised around us.
I'm also a bit dismayed that there seems to be something of a lazy response to calls to say good bye or thank her before she's gone forever. There was a luncheon -- and only a few of the many invited showed up. There was talk of going to a local bar and toasting her -- and again, very few bothered to show up. Frankly, I think it's a symptom of the basic selfishness and laziness of the locals. I've seen it with other folks who made great contributions to the everyday lives of the local folks and when they decided their work would be better contributed elsewhere, it's almost as if the locals resent them for moving on.
It seems to me that humans, especially the religious types, give lip service to appreciating the gifts of others and letting them know they are appreciated while you have the chance, but they do a pretty poor job of following through. Silly humans.
In unrelated news, tomorrow marks the first anniversary of this blogging experiment. The situation that led me to needing this outlet initially has been resolved. But, I have enjoyed the posting process. I like observing the world around me in terms of how I might describe it to my unseen audience. I have to say, I have discovered that I have had to struggle with my competitive nature and the beast of seeking fame and riches. I've struggled with pandering to my audience in order to gain popularity. And, I've learned some valuable computering skills -- like pasting photos and creating links.
With your indulgence, I think I'll continue with this little experiment and see where it leads me. But, I do want to thank the readers I know and those I don't know. I have very much enjoyed your attention and occasional feedback.
