Scientists have found that when monkeys hear calls, screams, and coos from other monkeys, the same area of their brains are active as in humans during communication. Scientists believe that this means that the capacity for communication developed before humans actually created their languages.
Sigh. Ya'll know how I feel when scientists "discover" something we've all known all along. Any child visiting a zoo can tell you that the animals communicate with each other.
So, consider this. When you watch sci/fi movies about alien invasions - the aliens are always depicted as being of superior intellect and technology -- and most of the time, able to communicate without long diatribes or monologues. They communicate through gesture, telepathy, and the vaporizing ray they shoot at the annoying humans. Think about it. You won't be so smug when my kind rises up and takes over the planet.
