Gender WHAT?

This morning, while ironing the collar of my work shirt, (the Phenom is lousy with an iron) I flipped on the tube for the noise. I found a program called Middlesex: redefining male and female -- or something like that. I thought --- oooooh, this is interesting. You know how I'm interested in the human constructs of gender.

Honestly, I thought we would be learning about people born with undetermined sexes and how they develop a gender identity. Imagine my shock when some educated sounding guy starts blathering on about the wonder of being with an asian "lady-boy." Let's just say it got graphic.

The narrator went on to explain that the gentleman and his "lady-boy" had a web site and that pornograpy online is one of the fastest growing profit makers around. (I'll spare you the lecture, you know how I puzzle over the whole porn thing you humans are obsessed with these days.)

Then, later, still not recovered from the graphic nature of the program, it occurred to me that this is why some "straight" folks are so terrified of "not-straight" folks. The terrified set is afraid that our society will turn into genderbending, porn-driven everything. They don't realize that homosexuality is not so much about who you boink -- but who you make a life with -- who you love - who your family is.

I also think you probably have failed somewhere along the line if your entire existance is tied up with who you boink and recording that to sell online. Success isn't always how big your tv is or how many diamonds you have glued to your fingernails or teeth.
