Trouble In Blogger Land

Gentle readers, I've been fielding a complaint.

When I refer to humans or animals I know, I like to assign them a nickname for use in the blog. I'm deeply committed to maintaining the confidential nature of the people who know my true identity - or the people who might, in some way, suffer social consequences from their association with me. Just a little consideration I offer my friends.

Well, Geezer isn't happy with his nickname. Geezer would like me to call him "yoda" because of the wisdom and pure geeky appeal of yoda.

This butts up against several issues for me. First of all, this is my blog. I'm the one who writes it - more or less for my own amusement and the enjoyment of others. Secondly, I don't pander, too much, to the audience. I did tone down some rants in response to a reader. But, it wasn't a request she made, just a comment. I think allowing the readers to change and dictate the blog may be like negotiating with terrorists. Thirdly, granted, the names are a tad lame. In the case of Sparkle, it was a name s/he had already started using for her/himself and it was just easy to use it. The Chick, the Phenom, Preacher Lady all were names made up more or less on the spot. Same with Geezer.

I demonstrated a willingness to compromise -- that I would select another name. But, it would be a name of my choice. I suggested "Himbo" - the masculine of "bimbo." Geezer wasn't happy. Geezer still wants Yoda. For the record, Yoda is much older than Geezer and Geezer isn't green. I have consulted a friend - you may remember him - the guy who routinely finds himself at "naked people parties." (In fact, I think I'm going to start calling him "naked people party guy") Naked People Party Guy says that I should give Geezer the name Kermit. Kermit is green, and younger than yoda. I asked what he thought of "redneck yoda" -- but, Naked People Party Guy seemed to like "papa smurf" better. OOOOOH - maybe Himbo Smurf would be good? I just like "himbo" - and frankly, truth be told, I've been looking for a reason to use it.

I'll have to consider it a bit longer. Perhaps get more input. I'll let you folks know.

Papa Smurf would be preferred of the options available...it has actually been a previous nickname so you may be up to something there.
