I read a long article the other day about how scientists have "discovered" that animals have personalities distinct to individual critters. Having learned that, I decided to go right out and get a personality for myself too.
I love/hate it when scientists "discover" shit everyone already knew and took for granted. Like the fact you can tell if someone has a fever by feeling their faces. Any one who has owned a pet can tell you that non-human critters have distinct personalities.
But, then a thought came to me. Maybe humans assume that any personality an animal exhibits is as a result of human interaction. How egotistical and galling is that? But before getting my jockeys in a bundle, I reminded myself that humans also believe that all behaviors or personality characteristics children have are a direct result of parenting.
I wonder how I should go about getting scientists to research the idea that perhaps humans lay claim to too much of life, the universe, and everything?
