Homo-erotic sports

So, I reported the "sissy" name calling to the Phenom yesterday. I explained that I tried to shore up my reputation by posting a superbowl prediction. The Phenom wanted to know how superbowl banter would "fix" a sissy reputation. Which reminded me of a tirade I've had before -- the homo-erotic nature of men's sports. Susan Sarandon's character in Bull Durham said that sports was just rechannelled homosexual tension. Or something like that.

Watch a football game sometime. It doesn't take much to realize that football is male bonding on several levels -- from the tackling to the ritual patting of each other's fannies.

I'm not opposed to homosexuality in humans. I'm not opposed to homosexuality in animals either. I think there is something "off" when men are not permitted free expression of affection for each other to the point they must invent elaborate "games" in order to touch each other. I am also somewhat confused over the fact that the issues that heat up debate amongst humans the fastest are all related to sex. Abortion, gay marriage, infidelity of elected officials, which hollywood types are sleeping with men or women, whose private sex videos are being distributed via the web this week, are the breasts real? Perhaps my monkey nature makes me view sex/sexuality differently -- but, I can't imagine any sex good enough to give up my family, my home, my career, my money to get. But, that's exactly what I see all the time on television and in life.

Maybe I'm just doing it wrong? Learning to be a human didn't exactly involve "lessons" in sex. But, I suspect humans don't learn anymore than I did. It's a wonder there are so many of you.
