Probably over thinking this one

Today I found myself in the sort of situation that after which you end up speaking at length with the police. Everyone is fine, I hope. Once I called the police to make the initial report, some time passed before I was passed along to a detective. As I recounted the experience, I realized that what I was reporting was actually pretty terrible. The detective was very good, gave me good responses, and as far as I can tell was going to respond in the most appropriate way.

Now, several hours away from the event, and a couple of tequila shots later, I'm struck by a thought. The detective seemed to not really want to believe what I was telling him. I don't think that it was a matter of not believing me, but rather not wanting to believe what I was telling him actually could happen in our town. I wonder if part of being a police officer is hoping each day that the most terrible things that can happen, won't happen.

And, given what I was reporting, I hope his wish comes true.
