Virtues

The Old Woman has told me more than once that patience is a virtue. Monkeys aren't known for being patient creatures. But, more than once the Old Woman has been proven right.

I have been holding my breath over a situation for a while now. And, before that, I think I probably took it for granted.

I have an old friend, in fact one of the first friends in my life, who is ever so slowly been taking baby steps towards recovery of a life threatening situation. For the longest time, we knew nothing about what was going on. I'm sad to say, I bee-bopped through my life with out really giving much thought to it. Until one day the bottom fell out.

Beyond the very practical concerns, there was also the feeling of utter helplessness, the knowledge that there truly wasn't anything I could do to bring about the outcome I and others wanted. Humans and Monkeys, alike, don't like feeling helpless.

But, patience seems to have paid off. A corner seems to have been turned. There is a slow returning to life. There will probably always be a limp, a real and present reminder of the darkest days and what was lost, but some day, it will be a token of how much life has changed.

Today, unlike yesterday, there is hope.
