It's been a super, terrific, fun weekend in Super Bongo's world.
In one of those, the company is better than the activity moments, I was able to spend several hours with a friend I've known since my college days. We met up at a regional Roller Derby bout.
It was wonderful that we were both willing to drive some distance . . . and happened to arrive at the exact same time . . . and we could take seats rink side . . . and the conversation was just as if we had not gone well over a year since our last get together.
She could share with me some of the drama of her life and I could fill her in on mine. The nice thing is . . . yes, we both have drama . . . but none of it is our own. All the drama interjected into our lives is the creation of another. Kinda nice to have someone to share that perspective with for a bit.
We also enjoyed cheering for the home team. Like I said, the company was more important than the activity.
I also was able to spend some QT with my favorite 8 year old. As she got into my car (she also joined us for roller derby), she announced with a very conversational tone, "so, I'm really getting into rock and roll." And, she is. I popped a Bob Marley cd in, and danged if she didn't already know the words and could sing along. Next year, when she's sporting a roller derby t-shirt and boppin' to some Marley, she'll be the coolest 3rd grader ever.
My favorite moment with the 8 year old was while we were playing video games, and I was losing very badly. I let the word "shit" slip out. I immediately said "you didn't hear me say that, and if you tell your parents, I'll deny it." The child looked at me, with all seriousness, and said "damn."
Coolest kid ever.
