I'm never sure at what point it is socially acceptable to intervene with the ill behavior of another "human's" child.
This weekend, during tailgate number 1, a woman I know and her child (8 years old, male) popped by our tent. She offered him a bite of classic, NOLA style muffeletta to which the child exclaimed loudly "THAT SMELLS BAD! THAT SMELLS LIKE SOMEONE FARTED!"
I kid you not. Whats more, the woman did NOTHING to correct her child or apologize for his behavior. She simply turned away from him and took a feeble bite of the offensive sandwich.
Later, I had to restrain the little darling from putting a beetle in the cake so that he could "trick someone into eating it." Again, nothing from the child's mother.
So, how much do you humans really embrace this notion of "it takes a village to raise a child" ? Because I'm totally willing to become the mean, old, dispensing some wisdom and justice person of that village . . . just say the word.
And, for the record, they did NOT smell of farts.

It takes a village. Especially when the parents are apparently unwilling to be involved.
I totally know this child and have had similar experience. He and his mother are going to find themselves home a lot more often because people will no longer invite them anywhere if he's allowed to behave like this. Your food is always YUMMY. Maybe he was smelling his own bad behavior.
