Undateable

I was talking with the Chick today about a friend of hers who is approaching his 5th decade and is dating someone not yet out of her 2nd. The creepy factor aside, it's become a situation of interest. We worry that both of them will get hurt. We worry that foolishness will put them in a situation in which even if they do break up, they are tied together forever.

I brought up Dan Savage's campsite rule . . . that when a person who is older and more experienced screws around with someone significantly younger and less experienced, that the older party has the responsibility to leave the younger cleaner and better off than when the romance started. The older, hopefully wiser, party has the responsibility to make sure there are no STDs or unintentional fertilized eggs.

The Chick said that she was afraid that her friend was not capable of adhering to the campsite rule. Not intentionally, but because he, himself, isn't in such great shape at the moment.

Which got me thinking . . . doesn't being in a personal position in one's life that they can't help but hurt the people around them make a person undateable?

Lordy, that would make almost all of us undateable, myself included. Maybe they'll just have a fine romance and look back on it one day as something sweet. Yes/no?

I tagged ya...it's optional :)

It very nearly makes them unfriendable too. Sadly.
