Lovin' the bad boy

You folks are going to have to help explain this one to me.

I have recently learned that a woman I worked with years ago, and have only seen in passing on very rare occasions since then is dating a man who is a sex offender.

Although he has not been convicted of sexually offending, he does have a court case pending and he does acknowledge paternity of a child that was conceived when he was in his late 20s and the mother of the child was 15.

The woman of my acquaintance is older, divorced, and has a grown child. She supports herself, has more education than the average bear, and you would think would steer clear of people with shady pasts.

So, you have to ask yourself. Does she know about the pending date in court? Does she totally believe whatever explanation he offers? Does she not know about the history of his behavior? Or, is he just such a catch otherwise that she doesn't care?

But this woman isn't really the notable exception. People who are spending their lives in prison manage to meet and marry women all the time. Even the most horrifying of violent offenders can find that they have a full time job answering letters from "fans."

So, why do you humans like the criminals so much? What's the attraction?
