It has been a very long day. I had to make a recruiting appearance today. I tried to explain, very patiently, what my organization does and how a new operative, I mean, "intern" might be utilized. I did see a few hopeful prospects. I didn't get anywhere with the gaggle of very young Asian women. It was like they confused the bowl of candy I offered as some sort of creepy come on line. Honestly, you humans.
Anyway, in order to clear my head, I decided to take the pooch on a rather long walk about the neighborhood. It's your average middle class type place. Homes set back from the streets, nicely manicured lawns, children hidden indoors or in fenced pens. So, you can imagine my surprise when I turn a corner and discover that someone has placed a "port-a-potty" in an open field.
I couldn't imagine what it could be for. Is it for folks in the neighborhood out walking their dogs or jogging who have a sudden call of nature and wizzing on someone's lawn is frowned upon? Or is it for the homeless people who live on the outskirts of our neighborhood - so that they might be spared the indignity of dropping trou in a public setting?
I wouldn't have thought our neighborhood so forward thinking and generous. I guess humans will always surprise me.
