Tonight, instead of the regular "No Reservations" - Anthony Bourdain cobbled together a show that started normally enough and then fell apart due to unforeseen international bombing events. The normally cavalier Tony was worried, depressed, scared, and more human than usual. He discovered the comfort in being able to absorb yourself in a mundane task - like chopping and cooking. He marveled at the selflessness of the locals who just wanted to help him and his crew - even when the bombings were in their own neighborhoods.
His narration reflected someone who will forever be changed by glimpsing of war. Of course, the Phenom had to point out that if Gordon Ramsay had been doing the show he would have screamed at the warring factions that they had better bleeping bleep themselves and bleeping get the bleep out of his show. It might have been a much different sort of even if they'd tread on Mr. Ramsay's toes.
I'm glad to see humans changed by war - not killed - but changed. I think humans need to intimately know the price of thumping their chests on a global scale. Thanks for sharing your experience and vulnerability with us, Ton.
