I just Instant Messenged Sparkle with the message that I'm a teeny bit high.
The Super Bongo has fallen for an ad campaign. I keep seeing those ads for "red bull" energy drink - and they say that the beverage will give you "wings." Well, the draw of flying monkeys is too much to resist. I purchased a sugar free Red Bull this morning and drank it for breakfast.
First of all, you should know that The Super Bongo already as a bit of a problem with caffeine. I love the stuff. I blame the Graduate Student -- he gave me my first real coffee - and it was some mighty fine Columbian stuff. As with many things, it had the opposite effect than you might think. I was a rather hyper monkey, and the coffee actually chilled me out. I have such fond memories of sitting in the sunny window in the lab, just grooving on the coffee. Over time, I needed more and more -- French roast, Italian roast, that special "spice" tea from Seattle to feel high. I discovered Dr. Pepper -- the combination of caffeine and sugar sent me in to orbit.
Several years ago, I kinda pulled back on the caffeine consumption. I started regarding it like many other drugs -- and only indulged when I needed a bit of a pick me up.
So, we arrive at today. The knowledge that caffeine makes me feel "good", "very good" and the prospect of being a winged monkey. I caved to the pressure. I did show the good judgment to start with the sugar free version first.
Red Bull tastes like medicine. I wonder if they make it terrible to keep people from slamming them one after another. After getting over the shock of the taste -- but also realizing that I needed to at least finish the drink I spent so much on -- I continued. Now, I admit, I was driving when I tried it. That may not have been real smart. By the time I'd traveled maybe 1/4 mile, I could feel my heart start to speed up a bit. My hands started to feel "dancy."
It's now been an hour since I finished off the 8.3 oz beverage -- and I'm in full tilt jitters. It's not all that bad either. My little monkey fingers are flying over the keyboard. My head is literally buzzing. I'm thinking this might be a fun way to start each day. I bet this is addictive.
And, hopefully in a cute and endearing way.
