We have returned from San Antonio, Texas. I have to say, San Antonio is a groovy place. I wouldn't mind visiting again. Especially if there's a zoo break.
I did come to the conclusion that San Antonio is the perfect example of the "melting pot" factor in this country. For example, the other night, while enjoying dinner at an old family Mexican eatery, we were entertained by the forlorn sounds of a bagpipe player off in the distance. There is history -- the Alamo is literally in the center of town -- and crass tourism (yet another Ripley's museum).
The Phenom's work was successful. We also met up with some rather nice grad students and took them to dinner one night.
We tried to rally volunteers to storm the Alamo and return it to Mexico. We became the favorite customers at a piano bar. And our return trip went smoothly. But, now I have piles of mail to sort, laundry to do, and I need to get the winter sheets/covers off the bed since it turned into summer while we were away from the swamp.
