I learned a valuable economic lesson this week. Saturday, when this hellish "death disease" started, I popped by the local massive mart for remedy. I saw a fairly new product on the shelves - but it was a whopping $7.82. So, I purchased some generic, 67 cent cough drops and waltzed out. What a huge, huge, huge mistake.
By yesterday, I was skulking back into a different massive mart and willing to plop down any amount to bring myself even the smallest level of relief. I paid $8.00 each for two forms of Zicam (the oral spray for day time use, and the medicated spoons for nighttime use) and I don't even know how much for MAXIMUM STRENGTH halls (they are cherry flavored, and I HATE cherry flavoring -- this should tell you the level of my desperation to live, damn it live!!!)
I started the oral spray immediately -- used 4 doses before going to bed. Used one of the medicated spoons (you stir the stuff that looks like honey but is terribly bitter into any beverage) before bed. I only recall having one big coughing fit during the night -- which gave me the opportunity to have another dose of oral spray. I do feel this morning like I actually got more than 2 hours sleep. HUGE IMPROVEMENT.
What's more, although the symptoms are not gone -- I still snorked bits of internal organs out this morning - and my throat still hurts -- it is nothing on the level of what I've suffered this past week. I guess you could argue that I would have recovered eventually and possibly was already on the mend. I am still pretty damn impressed with this Zicam stuff. I just wonder how much pain and agony I could have spared myself if I'd sucked it up and not been so bloody cheap earlier in this hellishness. Plus, I might have spared my long lost Lab Tech from hearing me describe myself as a "sick baby duck."
