It's pretty obvious too. I like food way too much. However, there are times when one needs their pants to not be so tight. And, the start of every year seems to be the time when humans traditionally vow that THIS YEAR we're gonna eat right and get fit! Until about January 15th.
Right now, I have one friend who is eating "nutrition bars" twice a day and a huge, protein rich meal in the evenings to lose weight. I have several friends who are participating in a group weight loss program which balances encouraging better eating/exercise habits with the humiliation of the public weigh in/lecture. I have another friend who is participating in TWO weight loss programs featuring the public weigh in. Horrors!
I did spend a couple of minutes watching a new "diet" cooking show the other day. The host was using faux butter and egg substitute and whirred up a kid's string cheese in a blender to make it fine enough to cover a whole pizza. (HORRORS. . . one ounce of faux cheese for a whole pizza? Isn't that what was tanking Dominos?)
I don't hold with faux foods. Junk foods, yes. But, using a little real butter or olive oil has to be better than something you have to give a cutsy name because you can't pronounce what it really is. And, if you are going to eat cheese . . . eat real cheese . . . there is nutritional value in real cheese . . . but not in plastic cheese. And, if you aren't a fan of the veg, find ways to sneak them in your food. Add a little more pepper/onion/tomato to your spaghetti sauce. Grate up some carrot pretty small and cook it in. Think about not picking the tomato off your sandwich. Eating smaller amounts of real foods have to be better for you than any amount of faux food.
