ARRRRRAAAGGGGGHHHHHHHH
Another so called news report about so called scientists observing gorillas using tools. This time, rather than "just" using a stick to test the depth of a body of water or using a tree trunk to strengthen a bridge --- a young gorilla has been observed using two rocks (hammer and anvil fashion) to break nuts. These "scientists" are all over themselves trying to explain this use of complex tools.
The gorilla in question was taken from poachers who were trying to sell her. Some scientists, not wanting to buck their tiny little ideas, say that the short bit of time this youngster was in the hands of captors, she must have learned the behavior through imitation. Heaven forbid you humans admit that perhaps you don't have a monopoly on intelligence. I've observed intelligence from a variety of critters over the years -- and one could argue that many humans haven't always used intelligence to make the world a better place.
I'm thinking that a tasty snack of fresh cracked nuts is the highest and best use of intelligence. Certainly better than obsessively following the mating habits of "celebrity" humans.
